Most guests who book this treatment come for the same reason: the tension simply will not come out. Shoulders that have been up around the ears for months. A neck that no longer turns as far as it should. A back that has been carrying something for a long time. Warmth reaches deeper than hands alone. It softens the tissue before the pressure arrives, so a therapist can work into a knot that would otherwise need far more force — and give you far more discomfort — before it lets go. The stones are first laid along the body — the back, the shoulders, sometimes the palms of the hands — and left there while the warmth soaks in. Once the muscle has begun to soften, the therapist takes the stones in hand and massages with them, using the stone itself to glide and press along the line of the tension. The stones we use are volcanic basalt. That matters more than it sounds. Basalt is dense and high in iron, which means it holds its heat for a long time and releases it slowly and evenly. A stone that has gone cold after two minutes does nothing at all. These stay warm through the whole stretch of work, so the heat keeps sinking in instead of sitting on the surface. We work with our own oils, blended here rather than bought in. They let the stones move smoothly over the skin, and they are chosen to help the muscles let go rather than simply to smell pleasant. The heat is not decoration. It is doing the work: it opens the tissue, draws the circulation towards the spot, and lets a knot release that pressure alone would have to fight its way into.
