Men and women book this for the same reason: skin that has stopped feeling like their own. Dry, dull, a little rough across the shoulders and shins. A scrub takes off the layer of dead cells sitting on the surface, and what is underneath is softer than most people expect. There is a practical benefit as well, and it is the one guests notice in the days afterwards. Once that dead layer is gone, the skin renews itself more readily, and everything you put on it — lotion, body cream, oil — sinks in instead of sitting on top. If you have been wondering why your moisturiser seems to do nothing, this is usually why. We mix the scrub ourselves, in our own kitchen: salt, charcoal, sesame and glycerine. Salt does the work of lifting the dead skin, charcoal draws out what has settled in the pores, sesame keeps the mixture from drying the skin out while it works. It is made in small amounts and used fresh. The treatment runs in three parts. First the scrub, worked over the whole body. Then a shower, to take everything away. And then a full body massage with our own blended oils, on skin that has just been cleared and is ready to take them in. That last part is why guests leave feeling loose as well as smooth — most places stop after the shower. One firm exception: we do not scrub sunburnt skin. Salt and charcoal on skin that is already raw hurts, and it does no good. If you are burnt, book the aloe vera massage instead and come back for the scrub once your skin has settled. The same applies to open cuts or a freshly shaved area — tell us when you book and we will either work around it or suggest something better suited.
